Abstract

This study was motivated by the issue of delivery delays in chemical shipments at PT Padi Hijau Buana, which exceeded the company’s maximum tolerance limit of 1%. Such conditions lead to increased operational costs, reduced customer satisfaction, and potential loss of customer loyalty. The objective of this research is to analyze the root causes of delays and propose corrective actions using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodology. The research applied literature review, field study, interviews, observations, and shipment data analysis covering the period from July 2024 to June 2025, consisting of 10,294 deliveries with 292 failed deliveries (average 2.8%). The Measure phase revealed that the delay rate significantly exceeded the company’s tolerance level. The Analyze phase identified root causes categorized into human factors (data entry errors, drivers unfamiliar with routes), methods (poor coordination, inefficient routing), machines (vehicle breakdowns and equipment failures), and environment (traffic congestion and adverse weather). Improvement proposals (Improve) were formulated using the 5W+1H approach, including data validation through ERP systems, driver training, route optimization, scheduled fleet maintenance, and enhanced coordination through revised SOPs. The Control phase focused on sustainable monitoring through KPIs, monthly evaluations, and continuous training. The results show that implementing the DMAIC methodology enables the company to reduce delivery delays to meet its standards, improve distribution efficiency, and maintain customer satisfaction. Keyword : DMAIC, delivery delays, quality control, fishbone diagram, route optimization
